As many as 494
candidates are in the fray for Ludhiana Municipal Corporation Elections
after 253 persons have withdrawn their candidatures on Friday.
All the candidates were also given poll symbols. Friday was a day of withdrawal of the nominations and allotment of symbols.
The ward-31 has 17, the maximum number of candidates are in the contest.
A
total of 754 nominations filed for Ludhiana Municipal Corporation
Elections and after scrutiny, six nomination papers of the candidates
were rejected and one of the candidates from ward number-41 had filed
nominations twice due to which 747 candidates remained in the contest.
Similarly,
two nominations were withdrawn out of total four nominations filed for a
by-election in the ward number-17 in Jagraon Municipal Council while
one candidate withdrew his papers back out of total three nominations
received for the ward number-5 in Payal Municipal Council.

District Electoral Officer-Cum-Additional Deputy Commissioner Mrs.
Neeru Katyal said that in Municipal Corporation Ludhiana, around 10.50
lakh voters would cast their votes to elect their representatives from
95 wards out of which 5.67 are male, 4.82 lakh are female while 23
belong to the third gender.
Ludhiana MC has 95 wards. The polling would be held on February 24 and the results would be announced on February 27.
The
voting would for the ward number-17 in Jagraon Municipal Council and
ward number-5 in Payal Municipal Council would be held on February 24
and results would also be announced on the same day.
